A golf course is an acceptable emergency alternate for an emergency landing in a small private plane (maybe not in the eyes of the golf club though). If you do a search you will see lot's of engine-out landings made at golf courses. The reason is pretty obvious; in a busy metropolitan area, a golf course has the most wide open real estate of about anywhere. But, landing at golf course is not without its risks and challenges, and few landings ever happen without banging up the plane.
Well, a pilot and his two PAX made just such a landing at a golf course in LA earlier today. Didn't even dent up the plane, but the seats may have required some cleaning afterwards! Came down next to a sand trap, careened around a large tree in a wild 90 degree turn, bounced over a roadway, over a tee box and came to a stop just short of a water hole. Not a scratch on the plane. Pretty amazing.
