I saw on my feed some influencers on the right are making sure that their followers are aware of the tactics of the left right now is to character assassinate Trump and anyone associated with him.
So how would any negative and supposedly valid criticism about Trump be received in such a climate? Who is being manipulated? Usually the followers of the ruling party. The others are presented as "the others".
Not that I'm convinced of the veracity of the assumptions made in the OP.
I too am guilty of overconfidently presenting opinion as fact.
