Say it with me y'all..."TWO DEC-ILLION"

#1
Now, I think y'all know I'm not known for low-effort posts, but this one is hard to put any more words to.

But, just for shits and giggles; say it with me one more time..."Two Decillion" dollars.

That's 20^33rd power, or 2 followed by 34 zeros.  In dollars...it's more than the entire World economy combined...by a factor of 10x.  If the entire World liquidated its entire wealth several times over, it would not be enough to pay this damage suit!

What am I talking about?  Well, a Russian court recently awarded a damage claim (against the evil Google) by Russian media and social media outlets this fantastic sum...and it gets even better!  It DOUBLES (with interest) every single day, until it is paid!  (THUD!).  It's so fantastical and unimaginable that I actually LOVE it!!  Seriously!  Let me explain why...

Liability and Tort law damage claims have become so completely unreasonable that no defendant can ever pay.  Heck, even entire nations cannot pay.  This is ridiculous beyond description.  But this one takes the cake!

Yes, surely it will get laughed out of any court it gets heard in, but this is beside the point.  The point is; this is the legal world the world community lives in.  It's crazy, it's out of control, and it's laughable...as it should be.

Beyond this I can't say much more as disbelief steals my words.  Enjoy the reading...

$2 Decillion Dollars...Pay Us!  <----Link

edit - Now, I hate Google, and I think they should suck every mature d*** on planet Earth, but the precedent here is far more entertaining.

This is going to come back to haunt google in 10 years when it's applying for a home loan and this judgement comes up on their credit.

Personally, I think google and russia should take this Judge Judy and get it settled, no doubt for a slightly smaller sum.

Oh, I think that's exactly what is going on here.  No doubt about it.

But there's a more sobering undertone to this.  Regardless how we may laugh, it's a real award judgement from a legitimate court in Russia.  Unless the matter it is dropped entirely by the plaintiffs then (in theory) it must be resolved...somehow.  Even if it settles for $5 dollars, the original judgement amount will still stand, and remain on the books that way.  Now, we could say that Russian courts don't have any World standing, but this isn't entirely true.  While some might say the Russian court system is merely a "kangaroo court system", it still has legal standing in Russia and the surrounding region.  Putin wouldn't risk compromising / de-legitimizing his entire judicial system over a silly suit like this.

So, I agree with you 100%, but by the same token this kind of thing also paves the way for other similar crazy actions in the future, potentially destabilizing world justice systems in this area of the law.  Clearly, a judgement such as this can never be paid...by anyone/everyone.  Then again, Google / Alphabet isn't just anyone.

If one steps back from it a bit, it's actually a very clever legal maneuver.  If this was just a judgement against some John Q. Public, it would just be laughed into the history books, but again Google isn't just John Q. Public...they are a mammoth organization akin to Big Brother.  Some might argue Google is the modern day equivalent of Star Trek's The Borg.

It will be interesting to see how this goes away.  I mean, it has to go away because it can't be paid, but how it goes away should be interesting to watch.

"kangaroo court system" made me think of all of the Trump trials. Wink

I love my country but am asshamed of our entire political system.  We're presented reasons to hate other countries and those reasons are exactly the same employed by our own leaders.

When I consider a Putin v Biden kind of leadership for America, which choice would I make?  Biggrin

We truly live in a glass house and the US needs to quit throwing stones.I don't need MSM propaganda to pick my enemies for me; they're a lot closer-and more dangerous to the American life than Russia is.
