Public Library...Shocker!

#1
I was in a Public Library yesterday.  It was just a small library (small town).  On the way out the door I noticed some fluorescent green and pink packages right next to the children's book section with a big sign above them which said..."FREE, Take One".

I couldn't read what was on the packages so I walked over to take a closer look...

The fluorescent pink package said..."Drug Test with instructions.  Tests for Methamphetamine, opioids, stimulants and other similar substances" (then it listed about a dozen chemical names for the drugs).

The fluorescent green package said..."Birth Control condoms with complete instructions for use"

Yes...right next to the children's book section in the Public Library!!

I applaud both drug testing and birth control measures, but putting them right next to the Dr. Seuss and Dora the Explorer books appeared to be very intentional.  This wasn't a small display either.  It was a floor standing display which was about 4-1/2 feet tall and about 2 feet wide.  (You could see where they had to move stuff out of the way to place this display were it was).

When I walk around in the world I apparently live in today it seems like a place I don't recognize anymore.

Did "The Library" place them? Or did other people walk in and set them there without permission?

Well, they were inside the library itself, and it was a big display; probably would have taken a couple people to move it into place.  I mean, it was a display like you'd see on an end-cap at a grocery store, and it had a couple hundred of each of the packets on the display.  I suppose it could have been put there clandestinely if the library lady wasn't looking, but I doubt it.  And, unless the library lady wasn't totally onboard with it, then I would think she would have had it moved out.  That said, I don't think the library people themselves placed it there; it was some outside company or charity, but still I don't think they would have been allowed without permission.
